AUDIO MIXING

Most musicians are unaware of the fact that mixing plays a much more crucial role in the outcome of a project than mastering does. A really well-done mix can hold its own even without mastering, whereas a really well-done mastering job cannot fully overcome the deficits of a terrible mix. Of course, the best case scenario is a really well-done mix that is then mastered by an experience mastering engineer using great equipment in a well-designed room.

What exactly is mixing, and why is a great mixing job so important? Mixing is the stage where all the tracks that have been recorded are individually processed in order to make them sound as good as possible in context with each other and together as a whole. The mixing stage is extremely important because this is where you have the most flexibility to manipulate each individual track and get it to sound the way you want it to sound in relation to all the other tracks. Because you have access to each individual track, combinations of effects (reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, etc.) and processers (EQ, compressors, expanders, gates, de-essers, etc.) can be utilized and each track can be molded into shape without negatively affecting other surrounding tracks. The mixing stage is the place where you have the best chance to correct mistakes made during the recording stage, or leave sounds as they are if they were recorded perfectly. But this is also the stage where you can do the most damage. Tracks that have been recorded using cheap equipment and mixed using low-end gear and plug-ins in an inadequate room by an inexperienced engineer will have a difficult time competing with what people are used to hearing from major label artists. In fact, under that scenario, even the best mastering house will be unable to deliver a master of comparable quality to the majors.

Using our state-of-the-art D/A and A/D converters, we are able to send your recorded tracks out of the DAW and through our high-end analog gear in order to achieve a ‘warmer’ sound prior to routing the tracks back into the DAW to mix using combinations of quality hardware and plug-ins. The assortment of equipment we use in our mixing sessions are in the same league as those used by major label artists in commercial studios, and therefore we are able to add flavor to your tracks and create a more polished and professional-sounding mix than you could on your own.

Experience for yourself the sound of a quality mix that enables your friends and fans to hear your songs the way you envisioned them when you wrote them. Don’t let your songs sink in a swamp of sonic waste polluted by sub-standard equipment and inferior recording and mixing techniques. Contact us to get a mixing sample of a portion one of your songs for you to evaluate and appreciate.

"This christmas song was recorded at another studio a few years ago, and re-mastering brought out the best of it while maintaining the original vibe."
