So, inquiring minds want to know – what exactly is the ‘mix enhancer’ service all about?

Well, for a long time now, we’ve listened to people debating the analog gear vs. plug-ins issue. “Plug-ins sound cold and lifeless”, we’ve heard. “Analog is warm and fat”. “Plug-ins are so good, you can’t tell the difference”. And so the battle has raged on for years.

In the early days, plug-ins did indeed sound cold and lifeless, and even appeared to cause some ‘sonic damage’ to everything that passed through them. But over time, certain companies have understood the flexibility and benefits of mixing “in-the-box” and invested more time and resources in their software.
At this stage in the game, some of the higher end plug-ins sound rather incredible, and have gone beyond simply “doing no harm” to actually adding to the quality of the sound. They now actually add character and attitude as well. The ‘problem’ is now no longer the plug-ins themselves, but the original sound sources that are being routed through the plug-ins.

So we came up with a solution for the independent artists and musicians who mix primarily in-the-box using plug-ins. If we can improve the quality of the original sound sources being sent through your plug-ins, we can improve the overall sound of your mix significantly. High-end analog gear continues to impart a certain ‘harmonic musicality’ to a sound source that is difficult to deliver using plug-ins alone. So, you send us your tracks, we route them through our high-end analog gear utilizing state-of-the-art D/A and A/D converters, and send them back as .wav or .aif files for you to import into your DAW and mix. Using these new tracks in your mixes, even with the same plug-ins (and sometimes even with the same settings), your mixes will be improved dramatically. Better yet, your mixing time will be shortened significantly because the new tracks will “sit better” in the mix and not need as much processing.
